Wanted to make sure that you knew that although I wrote Spenser on everything, I adopted Chester.
We've had Apollo (formerly Chester) for 4 days and my dad still hasn't stopped grinning! He's a happy, affectionate, energetic, inquisitive boy, very puppy-like despite his age. (both Apollo and my dad) At first he would chase balls, frisbees, etc. but didn't seem to know what to do after he got to them. He now actually tries to catch the ball and chomps happily on tennis balls. The Kong toys and frisbee don't interest him as much. He knows sit and we're working on stay as well as leash manners. We'll get into an obedience class, asap.
I've had to to reinforce the already ugly barrier to separate Apollo from our cat, Patches. Our dog gate didn't even slow him down. He is way too enthusiastic in trying to greet her. I'm working on a gradual introduction.
We are thrilled to have him as part of our family. Well...maybe not Patches.
Chief was adopted!
Update March 2009:
Ginny, it has been 4 weeks today since we choose Chief (now Tucker) as the newest member of our family. As reluctant as he was to get in the car at your kennel, he has quickly learned the trick and insists on a daily ride (anywhere will do). He was very quiet the first week but has adjusted to his new home, is gaining weight and his playful personality is emerging. He got his last heartworm treatment today and the most difficult thing for all of us is keeping him quiet due to this. Another two weeks to go!!!!! He has met some folks in the community and has been a big hit. When his health improves and we can introduce him to the many joys of living in a water front community with lots of open space, we will send a picture. Again, Richard and I and Tucker want to thank you and Paws for Life.

Patty was adopted!
Update February 2009:
Hi Ginny,
Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know Patty is doing well. We still have had a few accidents in the house, but I plan to have Dana come over and give us some tips. I think she is slowly adjusting. Like you said she really likes the couch and sleeps most of the day away...snoring as she goes. We all love her. She has been great with the kids and they have been great with her. My oldest has been very nurturing and talks to her in the softest voice. I was SO happy the other day because she stopped drinking the skuzzy water out of the kids sandbox in the backyard. She now drinks clean water from her clean bowl. Her preference for the water in the backyard must have had something to do with the fact that she was outside for sometime. I am thinking that she had a loving home at some point in her life because she barks to go outside and knows some basic commands. I will keep in touch with her progress and let you know how she makes out at the vet on Monday, 2/16. Thanks for everything!
